Interview with Rafaella Rea (Maddalena Occhipinti)

How does your character Maddalena Occhipinti develop during season 2? How was to capture the spirit of the era in a character?

The most obvious change is her social status. From working in a bar and living in a small apartment, she will experience the comforts of London with fine clothes and trendy hairstyles. That is the only change. However, that external factor does not change her nature in any way. She is made of altruism, generosity and kindness. Still humble and kind, she will come back to Rome with more self-assurance like all people who have managed to overcome difficult moments and to enjoy deserved serenity.

In Italy, is there still the same family spirit we see in Looking Back?

I do not think that today in Italy you can find the same family types that you can see in Looking Back (Raccontami), at least in most cases and certainly less in large cities. The current society is way different from the 60's.

What is the difference between playing a character in a series and in a film?

Regarding the commitment, the professionalism, and the passion, I do not think there is a difference between working as an actor in a film or in a series. However, the role preparation phase is slightly different but the essential thing in both cases is the story. When the story is well written, regardless of duration, we can tell many things in an hour and a half.
