Murder by the Book (Die Muse des Mörders, 2018) Director: Sascha Bigler Presentation: An aging crime writer, whose professional glory has long since faded, witnesses Vienna being rocked by a series of murders that seem to be based on her bestsellers. Eurochannel premiers Murder by the Book. Madeleine – Mado, lives in her self-created world and in the imagination of still being a famous best-selling author. She is a successful and a good author, who puffs herself up as an arrogant, sharp-tongued diva - all the more so since her books are no longer selling well. The taboo-free cynic has a sharp tongue against everyone and everyone – including her own son Oliver. When a serial killer terrifies Vienna, it turns out that the crimes are based on made-up scenarios from Madeleine's books. The former bestseller queen is initially shocked and turns on the police. But soon she wants to enjoy the feeling of being in the public eye again. The diva-like woman is able to take positives from the new attention she is receiving, until murders also occur in her inner circle. Investigator Rupert Baumer and his colleague Flo are tasked with the investigation and they realize that the perpetrator is precisely recreating bloody scenes from the - unfortunately countless - novels of the former crime star. Inspector Baumer and his assistant Flo fear that more gruesome murders will follow. While the police are groping in the dark, Mado and his son Oliver are almost a little happy about the renewed interest of the public. The shock of a real experience of violence then takes a toll on the old lady. This darkly humorous crime thriller adds literary allusions to the narrative and gives the characters biting dialogue to make the fundamental notion more appealing. Among the outstanding actors, Christiane Hörbiger in particular shines in her tailor-made parade role. Synopsis: Awards and festivals: |
