In a city teetering on the edge of chaos, a brilliant scientist turned desperate criminal takes a bold step that will forever alter the lives of everyone around him. Eurochannel premieres Crossfire.

This gripping crime thriller plunges audiences into the heart of a harrowing hostage situation, where every second is a battle for survival. Based on Martin Goffa’s novel The Little Girl, the film weaves together tense, high-stakes drama with a deeply emotional backstory that unveils the complexities of human desperation. Set primarily in two locations—the interior of a bank filled with hostages and the police van where a negotiator desperately tries to make contact with the mysterious assailant—the film keeps viewers on edge as it gradually reveals the twisted motives behind a shocking act of violence.

The plot centers around a former top scientist, once a respected figure in his field, who now stands on the edge of a breakdown. Driven by forces that are slowly revealed, he robs a busy city center bank, taking a dozen hostages and detonating a bomb outside the building. Amidst the chaos, a police hostage negotiator, locked in a tense standoff with the assailant, must navigate a game of cat and mouse, trying to buy time while uncovering what could possibly drive a man like him to such a desperate act.

What unfolds is a story not just about a bank robbery, but about the life-altering events that have pushed a brilliant mind to the brink of madness. Flashbacks intertwine with the present-day hostage crisis, taking viewers back to the tragic story of the robber’s daughter, Karin. The connection between Karin’s past and the present crisis is chilling, raising the stakes and adding layers of complexity to the perpetrator’s motivations. Was it truly an act of random violence, or was there a darker, more personal reason behind the attack?

The hostages themselves—each a character with their own backstory—add another layer of tension, as the film explores the randomness of fate. A prominent parliament member, an ill elderly man, a lawyer with her son, and several bank employees find themselves caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

As the police close in, and the bomb’s countdown continues, Crossfire doesn’t just offer a thrilling spectacle but delves into themes of loss, betrayal, and the sometimes tragic consequences of the choices we make. With director Jiří Svoboda at the helm, the film keeps viewers hooked, offering twists and turns that will have them questioning what they thought they knew until the very end.
